Dunn helps lead deaf cheer squad to championship

ABC News: Deaf cheerleaders wow crowds at championship

Nebraska’s Renca Dunn helped coach the Iowa School for the Deaf cheerleading squad to their first championship.

The Council Bluffs, Iowa, team — which cheers to the beat of a drum, feeling the vibrations to stay in synch — competed and earned top honors at the Great Plains School for the Deaf cheer championship. Their story was featured nationally on the ABC Nightly News and by other regional media outlets.

Along with coaching the team, Dunn is a doctoral student in the Department of Communication Studies and a member of the Communication and Identity Lab. Her research is focused on interpersonal, health and family communication.
