The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Clay Club will welcome ceramic artists Cathy Lu and Robin Dupont for two days of demonstration and lectures.

Demonstrations will be held Nov. 15-16. All events including artist lectures are open to the public. Demonstrations will be held in the Ceramics Studio, Richards Hall room 118, from 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Nov. 15, and 1-5 p.m. Nov. 16. Artist talks will be held at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 15 in Richards Hall, room 15.

Lu is a ceramic artist who manipulates traditional Chinese art objects and symbols as a way to deconstruct the assumptions we have about Asian American identity and cultural authenticity. By creating ceramic based sculptures and large scale installations, Lu explores what it means to be both Asian and American, while not being entirely accepted as either. Unpacking how experiences of immigration, cultural hybridity and cultural assimilation become part of the larger American identity is central to Lu’s work. Lu lives and works in Richmond, California.

Dupont is a ceramic artist and educator specializing in atmospheric firing techniques. His work is an inquiry into the ceramic process and the relational aspects of useful objects. With a master’s from Utah State University, Dupont has also participated in several artist-in-residence programs, research and work studies abroad and has professional experience in kiln building and teaching at the post secondary level.

The events being held throughout the day and are come and go as you please. Public parking is available in the Stadium Drive Parking Garage, which is located near Richards Hall and west of Memorial Stadium.
