Chiara to kick off Hixson-Lied series Oct. 6

The Chiara String Quartet opens the 2016-17 Hixson-Lied Concert Series with a 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 performance in Kimball Recital Hall.

The program, “The Big Fugue,” will include Ludwig van Beethoven’s string quartet in B-flat major (Op. 130) and its original finale, “Big Fuge.” The concert will also include Benjamin Britten’s “Three Divertimenti” and Franz Schubert’s lyrical string quartet in A minor.

The concert, one of five performances staged this week by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music, will be live webcast.

Renowned for bringing fresh excitement to traditional string quartet repertoire and for creating insightful interpretations of new music, the Chiara String Quartet is the quartet-in-residence in Nebraska’s Glenn Korff School of Music. Members are Gregory Beaver, cello; Rebecca Fischer, violin; Jonah Sirota, viola; and Hye-Yung Julie Yoon, violin.

The quartet is in its 16th year and has recorded five albums, the most recent, “Bartók By Heart,” was released in 2016.

Other Hixson-Lied Concert Series performances by the Chiara String Quartet include: “Hall and Notes” on Nov. 29; “Premiered and Loved” on Feb. 1, “Beyond Their Years” on March 29.

Tickets to Hixson-Lied Concert Series performances are available at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, at the door or by calling 402-472-4747. Single tickets are $20 for general admission, $10 for senior citizens and $5 for students. Cost for three concerts is $50 general admission, $25 for senior citizens and $10 for students. To attend all four performances, tickets are $60 for general admission, $30 for senior citizens and $15 for students.
