Chemistry Day is Oct. 8

Chemistry Day is October 8th

The 16th annual University of Nebraska Chemistry Day is Oct. 8.

This year’s event is built around the theme “Solving Mysteries through Chemistry: Exploring the chemistry of fibers and forensics.” A chemistry quiz bowl, an inter-school poetry competition, tours of research laboratories and the Instrumentation Center, a panel discussion featuring current chemistry undergraduates and a roundtable for parents and teachers are also planned. All events will take place inside Hamilton Hall, located at 639 N. 12th St.

High school seniors who attend can register to win scholarships. The department plans to award several scholarships amounting up to $1,500 for the 2017-18 academic year to prospective Nebraska chemistry majors. Applicants must have completed a high school chemistry course and have an overall GPA of a B+ or higher. Interested seniors should bring a copy of their high school transcript and a brief reference letter to be eligible.

Registration for Chemistry Day is free and includes a continental breakfast and buffet lunch. For complete event details, including information about the scholarships or to register, click here or contact Peg Bergmeyer at 402-472-3514 or pbergmeyer2@unl.edu.
