Butler melds Yeats prose into Aug. 28 recital

Kate Butler

Mezzo-soprano Kate Butler is combining music with the poetry of William Butler Yeats for a 3 p.m. Aug. 28 recital at Ebenezer Church, 801 B. St., in Lincoln.

The recital, “Words that I Gather,” includes compositions by Ivor Gurney, Sidney Homer, Thomas Dunhill, Alec Wilder, Ned Rorem, Samuel Barber, Ben Moore, Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Butler will be joined by Michael Cotton on piano and Jon David Gruett, tenor. The performance is free and open to the public.

Yeats (1865-1939) was an Irish poet, dramatist and prose writer. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923 and is considered to be one of the best English language poets of the 20th century.

Butler is an associate professor of voice in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music. For more information, click here.
