The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has named Justin Chase Brown as director of scholarships and financial aid. Brown, who is associate director of the Office of Student Financial Aid at the University of Missouri in Columbia, will begin at UNL on Aug. 3.

The director of scholarships and financial aid administers the university’s scholarship and student financial assistance programs. In 2014-15, UNL awarded more than $220 million in student aid.

The director plays a critical role in the university’s efforts to enroll and retain students, and is among the leaders of Academic Services and Enrollment Management at UNL, which plans, implements and evaluates services and programs aimed at student enrollment and success.

“Having been a first-generation college student himself, Justin understands deeply the fundamental importance of access and affordability for all students,” said Ronnie Green, interim senior vice chancellor for academic affairs. “He has built an impressive track record as an innovator, a collaborative leader and an advocate for students, and he will bring dynamic leadership and expertise that will help further our goals.”

Brown, a 2005 graduate of Texas A&M University, earned a master of science in education from the University of Kansas in 2007. In his tenure at Missouri, he managed and coordinated financial aid operations, including federal student aid programs, quality assurance programs, day-to-day activities of MU’s financial aid office and implementation of policies and procedures.

“I look forward to leading a team of dedicated and talented staff who help students achieve their educational goals through excellent service by providing accurate information, access and scholarship and financial aid options,” he said. “I am deeply committed to excellence in scholarship and financial aid administration with a dynamic, innovative and collaborative spirit. The opportunity to join UNL, where these characteristics are valued as key to student success, is exciting.”

Brown succeeds Craig Munier, who retired in January after 16 years at UNL. James Volkmer served as UNL’s interim director.
