The life of Oglala Lakota leader Crazy Horse, whose face is shown above in the Crazy Horse memorial in South Dakota, will be examined during a Sept. 22 book discussion at the University Bookstore. The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 6:30 p.m.

A University Bookstore discussion about the book “Crazy Horse: The Lakota Warrior’s Life and Legacy” will feature representatives of the Oglala Lakota chief’s family and the author of the book.

The event, which is free and open to the public is 6 p.m. Sept. 22 at the University Bookstore in the Nebraska Union. Crazy Horse family representatives scheduled to attend include Floyd Clown, Doug War Eagle and Don Red Thunder.

Written by William B. Matson, the book features family stories and tales about their famous relative. In many ways, the family’s oral history differs from what has become the standard and widely accepted biography of Crazy Horse.

Through the book, the family clarifies inaccuracies and shares their story about the past. Topics include what it means to be Lakota, the family genealogy, the life of Crazy Horse and his motivations, his death, and why the family decided to tell the truth as they know it after keeping quiet for so long.
