Peg Bergmeyer, a resource center staff assistant in the Department of Chemistry, will retire in June after 25 years of service to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

A virtual retirement reception celebrating Bergmeyer’s career is 2 p.m. June 3 via Zoom. Registration, available here, is required to receive the Zoom information.

Bergmeyer joined the university in the 1970’s working in the payroll and student account offices for six years. In 2002, she rejoined the university in the Department of Chemistry, where she has spent the last 19 years.

In Bergmeyer’s 19 years with Chemistry, many elements of the role have changed, specifically the digitization of enrollment, which she has overseen.

“I am proud that I was able to learn the changes and to help bring the changes to the department faculty and staff,” Bergmeyer said. “I tried to make work life easier for those around me in the department and on campus.”

She also served as the liaison between students and instructors, helping strengthen the learning and teaching experience for all.

The skills, achievements and work ethic of Bergmeyer were recognized by the greater community as she received two College of Arts and Sciences Applause Awards and an Annual Applause, awarded in 2005.

“I will fondly remember recruiting trips to Omaha for Big Red Road Shows, helping out with many Chemistry Days, and the many social events held in the Chemistry Department, many a PLU Picnic and Holiday party, chili cook-offs, dressing up for Halloween, and Friday afternoon cookies,” Bergmeyer said, “I will miss the daily interaction with faculty and students, along with Chemistry staff and other campus employees.”

In retirement, Bergmeyer is looking forward to spending more time with family and friends, traveling and continuing home projects. She will also work to help more with children’s activities at her church.
