Alumni of Color Town Hall is Feb. 9

The Nebraska Alumni Association will host an online Alumni of Color Town Hall from 1 to 2 p.m., Feb. 9 via Zoom for Nebraska alumni and friends. The event will feature Alumni Association Executive Director Shelley Zaborowski, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Vice Chancellor Marco Barker and Assistant Vice Chancellor Nkenge Friday. The town hall will be moderated by alumna Jay Warren-Teamer.

“Engaged and passionate alumni of color are essential to shaping the vision and priorities of a strong future for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,” Zaborowski said. “To make sure we have a university that best serves all students and alumni, we are looking for Huskers interested in helping us focus and launch the alumni association’s new Alumni of Color Network.”

The goal of the town hall is to provide an opportunity for alumni and friends to connect with the alumni association and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The town hall will highlight the university’s priority to launch a new Alumni of Color Network and engage alumni through structured feedback. Additionally, the event will showcase the mission and aims of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and provide context on the state of diversity on campus.

“More than ever, it is critical we hear from and engage our alumni of color,” Dr. Barker said. “This past year has shown and reminded us that every person, interaction and voice matters in shaping our institutions and in building communities. Our university’s N2025 strategic plan and broader journey on anti-racism are two commitments to recognizing and lifting voices often missing from conversations and engagement. I see the town hall and the network as an important step in the association’s journey to strengthening relationships with alumni of color and advancing inclusion across the Husker family.”

Participants must register in advance for the Alumni of Color Town Hall. Attendees are encouraged to enable their video cameras for the duration of the event. Breakout groups will also provide an opportunity for everyone to contribute to the conversation. Event-related inquiries can be directed to Jordan Gonzales, director of alumni engagement.

Nebraska alumni and friends are invited to participate in an online Alumni of Color Town Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. CT held via Zoom.
