Recent achievements for the campus community were earned by Karin Berg, Warren “Buck” Gabelman, Wayne F. Keim, Danni Gilbert, Jess Humphrey, Jeffrey L. Day, Quinn McFadden, Geneva Sinkula, India Enter, Sanda Mašić, Mee-Hwa Roche, Kayla Pracht and the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts.

Honors

  • Karin Berg, senior Glenn Korff School of Music student, placed in three categories of The Great Composers international music competition. The Great Composers competition is a series of international music competitions for young performers. The competitions are for instrumentalists (piano, strings, winds and percussion), singers (opera, sacred music, art song and musical theatre) and chamber groups. Read the full story here.

  • Warren “Buck” Gabelman and Wayne F. Keim, University of Nebraska–Lincoln alumni, received the 2020 Department of Agronomy and Horticulture Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is the highest honor bestowed upon graduates of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture who have made significant contributions to their community, state and nation through professional service, public service and/or civic engagement.   • Danni Gilbert, associate professor of practice in music education in the Glenn Korff School of Music, has received the 2020 Nebraska Music Educator of the Year Award from the Nebraska Music Educators Association. Recipients of the NMEA Music Educator of the Year Award display excellence in every facet of music teaching in Nebraska. Nominees must have completed at least seven years of teaching and are currently active teaching. Read the full story here.

  • Jess Humphrey, a graduate student in Food Science and Technology, was awarded first place in the IAFP Student Awards Poster Presentation for her poster, Effect of Storage Time and Temperature on the Recovery of Milk and Peanut Residue from Environmental Swabs.

  • AIA Nebraska honored the College of Architecture with three awards at this year’s 2020 Honor and Awards Ceremony, held Nov. 4. At the ceremony, AIA presented Jeffrey L. Day, professor and fellow of AIA, with the very first Architectural Design Education award. Fourth-year architecture student Geneva Sinkula won the AIAS Undergraduate Award; and master of architecture student Quinn McFadden earned the AIAS Graduate Award. Read more about the awards here.

  • India Enter, cello, Sanda Mašić, flute, and Mee-Hwa Roche, viola, were all selected as winners of the Glenn Korff School of Music Concerto Competition. Learn more about each student here.

  • Kayla Pracht, junior music major in the Glenn Korff School of Music, won the Brass Division of the Music Teacher’s National Association state competition. This competition was open to all collegiate-level brass students in the state of Nebraska. Pracht will now advance to the West Central Regional round, which features the winners from seven surrounding states. Read the full story here.

  • The Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts received the AIA Nebraska Architecture Merit Award. AIA Nebraska, a chapter of the American Institute of Architects, announced their 2020 Excellence in Design Award winners on Nov. 9. Nine Honor Awards and one Merit Award were presented from among 103 submissions, the largest number of submissions from Nebraska architects to date. Read the full story here.
