‘A View from the Side’ to feature jazz standards, new works

The Glenn Korff School of Music’s Jazz Orchestra and Big Band will present “A View from the Side” at 7:30 p.m. March 15 in Kimball Recital Hall.

The concert will feature inventive arrangements of classic jazz standards as well as new works that will excite listeners through their use of color, rhythm and harmony. The program will include works and arrangements by Jack Cooper, Bill Holman, Tom Matta, Gary Lindsey, Donald Brown, Paul McKee and others.

Directed by Paul Haar, the Jazz Orchestra is the university’s showcase jazz organization and one of the Korff School’s most visible performing groups. The versatile ensemble performs all styles of music from Duke Ellington to contemporary artists.

Directed by Andrew Janak, the Big Band is a vital component of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln jazz curriculum. The Big Band is designed to motivate and inform music educators and aspiring teachers through innovative programming and pedagogical methods.

Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for students and seniors. The performance will be streamed live here.
